New Years Resolutions

[Posted January 5th, 2012] by KimRuchAlegant

Anyone made resolutions? I used to, but I’ve decided I like the word “intentions” better. It seems to me that it is easier to keep an intention, and easier to get back to it if I slip. When you slip from a resolution, sometimes the thought process is “Well, I blew that one. Might as well give up.” I don’t want to have those thoughts, so I’m intending.

But sometimes maybe we fail at our resolutions because we set ourselves up for failure by expecting it. What if those expectations could be released? Let’s do some tapping:

Karate Chop: Even though I’m afraid I’ll fail at my resolutions, I deeply and completely accept myself. Even though I don’t was to fail again, I accept who I am and how I feel. Even though I’m scared, I love and accept myself anyway.

Eyebrow: I don’t want to fail
Side of the Eye: Why do I bother making resolutions?
Under the Eye: I never keep them anyway
Under Nose: It’s just another way to beat myself up
Chin: What if this year was different?
Collarbone: Who am I kidding?
Under Arm: It’s never different
Top of Head: I make a resolution and break it

Eyebrow: I’m such a failure
Side of the Eye: It’s just something else to fail at
Under the Eye: I’m tired of this
Under Nose: I’m ready to make a change
Chin: I want to succeed
Collarbone: But I’m not going to
Under Arm: Why do I keep talking to myself this way?
Top of Head: I really am ready to make a change

Karate Chop: Even though it feels scary, I’m ready to make a change. Even though I’ve never succeeded before, there’s a first time for everything! Even though it hasn’t worked before, this time, I choose to make it work

Eyebrow: I’m ready to follow through on my resolutions!
Side of the Eye: It’s fun having something to look forward to
Under the Eye: I love knowing that even if I fall off the horse, I can forgive myself and get back on
Under Nose: I’m ready to make changes this year
Chin: I know things will get better for me this year
Collarbone: I can relax into this, and enjoy my progess
Under Arm: I love knowing I am in charge of my life
Top of Head: This is my life, and I’m making it great!

So, be kind to yourself. One step backwards does not have to mean complete failure. Only if you let it be so. Choosing to have it be different will make all the difference!

Today is Women’s Empowerment Day.  How do women become empowered?  I think it’s by owning our power.  If we can’t own our own power, then no one else will.  Maybe women hold so few political offices in the country because we tend to be more afraid of our power than men are.  Women will hide their power, men will flaunt it.  Women who DO own their power and flaunt it are usually called nasty names by the press and others in power, men or women.  We sabotage our own success, our own power because it does not seem to be safe to shine.

While we can’t change the media or other’s reactions to us, we can change how we feel inside, and become comfortable with our power, with the help of a little tapping.  So, let’s do some tapping to help us own our power.  Guys can do this too, of course.

Karate chop: Even though I’m afraid to own my power, I love and accept myself.  Even though I’m afraid of what they’ll say if I own my power, I accept who I am and how I feel.  Even though I’ve never been powerful, I’m open to the possibility of being powerful now.

Eyebrow: I’m not powerful
Side of the Eye: I’ve never been powerful
Under the Eye: It’s dangerous to be powerful
Under Nose:  I won’t be safe if I’m powerful
Chin: No women in my family are powerful
Collarbone: Why do I have to be the trailblazer?
Under Arm: I don’t think women can be feminine and powerful
Top of Head:  I don’t want to be seen like Hillary Clinton or Lynne Abraham are seen
Eyebrow: What if I don’t want to be powerful
Side of the Eye: What if I’m happy the way I am?
Under the Eye: Actually, it’s not true
Under Nose:  I’m not happy the way things are
Chin: I do think women should be able to own their power and not suffer for it
Collarbone:  What if I could own my power?
Under Arm: How would my life change if I owned my power?
Top of Head:  I’m worried about that

Take a deep breath.  Tapping can stir up old feelings and memories.  They are coming up so you can release them now.  What thoughts came to you while you were doing that tapping?  If particular thoughts, emotions or events are coming up in your mind, write them down and make your own phrases and do more tapping.  Just talk about them while you are tapping through the points.  You can’t do this wrong.  Once those feelings have calmed down, proceed to the next sequences.

Karate Chop: Even though I’m still kind of afraid of my power, I’m willing to consider that maybe I am powerful.  Even though being powerful seems scary, I’m ready to take that chance.  Even though I used to worry about what others thought of me, I’m ready to step into my power now.

Eyebrow:  I’m ready to own my power
Side of the Eye: It feels so good to own my power
Under the Eye: It feels natural to accept my personal power and let it shine
Under Nose:  I love feeling powerful!
Chin: It’s so exciting to know that I am powerful
Collarbone:  I’m not concerned about what others think of my power
Under Arm: I can control my thoughts, but not theirs
Top of Head:  I am woman, hear me roar!

Feel free to do that tapping more than once.  Take a deep breath.  Doesn’t that feel good?  Go get ‘em tiger!

Access Your Creativity

[Posted April 15th, 2011] by KimRuchAlegant

I’ve never considered myself a creative person.  I can’t draw or paint or write poetry.  I can sing a little, but never had lessons or anything.  I don’t play an instrument or write songs.  So when a friend told me that I am very creative, it really gave me pause.  What?  I’m creative?  She said yes-look at all that you have created in your life.

As I thought more about it, I realized she’s right!  While I may not be artistic, I have created a lot in my life.  I’ve created a marriage and a family, a law firm and an energy coaching business, some nice websites (TheGuiltyMom.com is especially cool and has the potential to help thousands of moms- shameless self promotion), the crazy gardens around my house, etc.

Just because I’m not artistic doesn’t mean that I’m not creative.  What an epiphany.

I’ll bet I’m not the only one who feels this way.  How many of you don’t think of yourself as creative?  But I bet if you look around you life, you’ll see many wonderful things that you’ve created (and maybe some not so wonderful, but we all have created everything around us-that’s another article on the law of attraction).

If you could begin to recognize your innate creativity, you will be able to create even more great stuff in your life.  So, let’s do some tapping on this:

Karate Chop:  Even though I’m not creative, I love and accept myself.  Even though I don’t know how to make things, I accept who I am and how I feel.  Even though I know I’m not creative, I open to the possibility that maybe I can be.

Eyebrow: I’m not creative.
Side of the Eye: I can’t sing or draw or write.
Under the Eye: That’s what creative people do, right?
Under Nose:  That’s not who I am.
Chin: I don’t make things.
Collarbone: You have to make things to be creative.
Under Arm: What if I am creative?
Top of Head:  No, I know that I’m not.

Eyebrow: I’m not good at creative stuff.
Side of the Eye: That’s not what I do.
Under the Eye: I break stuff, I don’t create it.
Under Nose:  What if I’m wrong?
Chin: What if I do create stuff?
Collarbone: Maybe it’s not fine art, but I think I have created things.
Under Arm: But no one is interested in what I create.
Top of Head:  Who am I kidding, I’m not creative.

Take a deep breath and notice your thoughts.  Jot down any thoughts that came up and tap on them now.  Once you have cleared some of your negative emotions around this, move to the next tapping sequence.

Continue tapping.
Eyebrow: I’ve changed my mind.
Side of the Eye: I am creative.
Under the Eye: I’ve created so many great things in my life.
Under Nose:  Just because it’s not art, doesn’t mean it’s not creative.
Chin: Just living my life is a form of creativity.
Collarbone: I love knowing that I’m creative!
Under Arm: It takes many types of creativity to make the world go ‘round.

Top of Head:  My creativity is different than anyone else’s.
Eyebrow: I love MY brand of creativity.
Side of the Eye: It’s just right for me.
Under the Eye: Look at all the wonderful things I’ve created.
Under Nose:  I’m ready to create more.
Chin: I accept that I’m a creative person.
Collarbone: I can’t wait to create something else.
Under Arm: I create my life.
Top of Head:  I look forward to creating my life even better then it is right now.

Take a deep breath, get a drink of water and notice your thoughts.  Jot down any thoughts that came up and tap on them now.  Now go out there and make something!

The Answers Are Within

[Posted November 10th, 2010] by KimRuchAlegant

I just got back from Colorado for our first Enwaken Coaching training.  Enwaken coaching is about using your intuition to “read” people’s energy. One of the things David Morelli, our teacher, kept saying is that EVERYONE CAN DO THIS.  By this he means, everyone can access their intuition and get answers (and that everyone can see energy, with practice-but don’t let that scare you away!).

On Twitter today (I’m FreedomHealing by the way-follow me) someone posted a quote about how the answers are always within.  You may remember that I’ve written a few newsletters about the “Turning Passion Into Profits” seminar that I attended. After that seminar, I began using EFT/tapping while saying affirmations each day.  The tapping allows you to clear any resistance you have to what it is that you are affirming.  The phrasing of affirmations is very important.  They need to be written in positive phrasing and in present tense.  Not “Money is coming to me” but “I have as much money as I want and need”.  See the difference?  (Feel free to contact me if you want some help to write your affirmations.)  I’ve been tapping and saying my affirmations before I go to bed at night ever since the seminar.

So, one of my affirmations was “I am able to access my intuition at all times”.  I affirmed this because too often my gut has told me to do or not do something, I haven’t listened, and I’ve not been happy about it.  So I was determined to get better about listening to my gut, which is where your “yes/no” intuition lies.  (One thing I learned from David Morelli is that there are different kinds of intuition in different parts of your body, loosely associated with your chakras.)

After a few months of tapping on “I am able to access my intuition at all times” I listened to an interview Bob Doyle did with David Morelli.  David did some mediation type exercises and then offered his Enwaken coaching program at the end.  How could I turn this down?  I had been asking to be able to access my intuition, and here I was listening to this offer.  I couldn’t say no, so now I am learning how to do intuitive readings of people’s energy.

As an aside, if you’ve never experienced EFT/tapping or want to try out my new intuitive energy reading skills, I’d be happy to give you 15 minutes of my time.

So I challenge you to write some affirmations for yourself, and say them while doing some tapping.  Do this at least once a day, but two or three times a day would be even better.  You will be very surprised at what happens with your life.  How do you determine what affirmations you need, you ask?  Listen to your intuition!

[Posted May 13th, 2010] by KimRuchAlegant

Bob Doyle said this at a weekend conference I attended.  What does it mean to you when you think about being your authentic self?  Sometimes people are living a life that someone told them they should be living-whether it be a spouse or a parent.  What role have you taken on because someone told you that you should, or because it was “expected” of you?

Sometimes our roles are what we expect of ourselves.  Right now, I expect myself to be a lawyer.  But I also want to be an energy healer.  Before the Turning Passion Into Profit weekend, I had convinced myself that I could not be both.  But now I know that I can build BOTH a successful law practice and a successful energy healing and coaching practice.  I can do both, and I will do both-I am doing both!

I think what Bob Doyle was referring to when he save us the admonition to “Be Your Authentic Self” was that you have to be who you need to be.  You have to do what you want to do.  If you are living the life someone else wanted for you or expected you to live, you are not going to be successful.

You may be outwardly successful, making money and living up to society’s expectations.  But what are you feeling inside?  Are you dying inside?   Do you feel like if you have to live this life for one more day you are going to scream?  All the money in the world would not make someone who feels like this feel successful on the inside, where it really matters.

Bob Doyle talks about how everything that is in your life now is a result of the energy vibrations you have put out in the past.  Your current life is in vibrational harmony with how you were vibrating previously.  To change your life you need to change your vibration.

Thoughts and feelings are your vibrations.  Your current emotionally charged thoughts are creating your future.  Are you creating the future that you want?  If not, why not?  I have done A LOT of EFT over the years, and I’m really starting to notice the changes it has made in my life.  Begin tapping on all the reasons why you are not living the life you really want to have, and things will begin to change for you.

Tapping changes your vibration, which changes your future.  Who doesn’t want to do that?

Are You Feeling Inspired?

[Posted October 6th, 2009] by KimRuchAlegant

What inspires you?  Inspiration is different for everyone.  You may feel inspired when you see a beautiful rose, hear a well written sermon, pray, climb a mountain, or watch your child sleep.  (or a million other things)  It is important to make time in your life for that which inspires you.  When you get your fix of inspiration, you can go back to your regular life and be the best you can be.

I go to a Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship, and one of the things I love best about it is that you never know what you are going to learn on a Sunday morning.  This past Sunday the sermon was given by a friend of mine.  We are a lay-lead congregation, which means that half of the Sundays the service is run by someone other than the minister.  Now, my friend happens to be a retired Baptist minister, turned UU.  He believes his spirituality is still developing, and he spoke about his perspective as a Christian Unitarian Universalist.

One of the things he said which struck me was when he was talking about volunteering, especially for the Fellowship (our “church”, which we don’t call a church in deference to the people who are not comfortable with the term).  He said that William Ellory Channing wrote about how if your volunteer activities drain your energy instead of giving you more energy, then you are doing them for the wrong reasons.  Hmm.  I think this ties in with inspiration.  If you are doing activities that you are inspired to do, you will get more energy from them.  If you are doing something out of obligation, it will drain your energy.

So I suppose the question is, how do we take inspired action?  We all have things we “have” to do, like do the dishes or fold the laundry or clean the bathroom or pick up doggy doo.  It can be hard to feel inspired when doing such tasks, right?  So what can we do while doing the mundane if not icky tasks to maintain our inspiration?

Buddists would say to be mindful, be fully present in the moment with what you are doing.  Don’t worry about the fight you had with your spouse or the grocery shopping you are going to do next.  Being present may not leave you feeling inspired, but you should feel peaceful.  If we pick up the doggy doo while having a negative conversation in our heads, we are going to feel very negative about the experience.  Could you choose to notice the lovely trees or flowers or grass or whatever is lovely in the vicinity?  Could you choose to think of someone you love and send them happy thoughts while you do the dirty work?

There are stories of people who lived in the Nazi Concentration Camps in Germany who did not let the experience affect their happiness.  I don’t think I could live and maybe die in those conditions without it affecting my outlook on life.  What kind of person would you have to be, to feel inspired in such a situation?  That is the kind of person I aspire to be.

Maybe picking up doggy doo isn’t so bad.

Success and Happiness Now

[Posted May 28th, 2009] by KimRuchAlegant

By Steve Wells, EFT Down Under

We have a guest author this month!  Steve Wells is a wonderful healer.  I hope you enjoy this article.

Success and Happiness Now by Steve Wells

The illusion of success is that it is always off in the distance, somewhere else, that place we’d rather be, anywhere but here. You don’t get to feel successful until you are successful, which is after you have done what you think you need to do. So most people feel bad in the present, it isn’t where they think they should be. So they dissociate from it, step away and criticise where they are, or daydream of another reality, anything but the one they have right now.

Do you think of success as some time way off into the future? Then you get to feel unhappy, even miserable, right now.

Do you believe that you don’t deserve to feel good right now, until you have met some criteria for success? Go directly to deep depression. Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200.

Try this: Simply notice the state you go into when you think of how successful you are right now. If you feel great, fantastic, you know that you already are successful. Go directly to GO. The place where you are right now.

If you feel negative when thinking of how successful you are right now, this can only be because you believe that something else is required in order for you to feel successful. Something you should have, something you should do (or even worse, something that others should do for you), something you should stop doing, or something you should be (which of course, you are not!).

And those beliefs are a prescription for more unhappiness… Unless you consider an alternative definition of success.

Success is not way off into the future. Success is available to you right now. As paradoxical and strange as it may seem, success begins with acceptance of where you are right now.

Barry Kaufman, who wrote Happiness is a Choice, says we believe we have to have reasons to feel happy and successful. So we decide for example that once we have achieved something then we will let ourselves feel happy. First success, then happiness.

So we set a goal for example to buy a new house…

Now according to the rules, we aren’t allowed to feel happy until we have achieved whatever it is that we should achieve, such as once we have moved into that house.

And here’s the worst of it: We believe we have to motivate ourselves to achieve our goals by using pain! So we make ourselves feel unhappy about our current housing situation in order to get ourselves do the things and achieve the things that will (eventually, presumably) make us happy and in the house of our dreams!

But it’s a trap. We are caught up in an endless spiral of misery if we swallow this BS (belief system) about success because when we achieve the thing we are supposed to achieve then we are supposed to set a new, higher goal and never be satisfied where we are because being satisfied with where you are and with what you have is considered deadly for ongoing achievement… So when we move into the house, then we need to furnish it with the right kind of furniture, or decorate it correctly, and make the garden just so…

So we get back on the pain treadmill in an attempt to make ourselves do and achieve some more, all the while motivating ourselves by saying that one day we will get to feel happy once we achieve this new, more challenging, goal, and once our house is perfect…

What’s the solution?

Strange as it may seem, the most powerful thing you can do to become happier and more successful is to accept where you are right now. Unhappiness exists only when we slip away from what is happening to judge what is happening…

As Kaufman states: "Unhappiness does not exist in the present moment! … Unhappiness exists only as a reflection or regret about the past or as an anticipation or worry toward the future. It does not exist right now, in this moment… if we can stay in this moment."

When you go away from this very moment to bring a fear or fantasy or memory into the moment, that becomes your present moment… You separate from what is really happening, you lose contact with the only truth you can really know, what is right here, right now.

Acceptance is not passive, as many people fear, since where you are right now is the starting place to where you will be. I read once that you can go anywhere in the world you want as long as you are willing to start from where you are (source unknown).

"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
– Carl Rogers

But we are reluctant to be where we are; we want to be somewhere better. And when we get there, we’ll find somewhere better than that to pine for. All the while missing the bleeding obvious that we already are where we most need to be right now, and that everything we need is "hidden" right here in this very moment.

One of the great values of tapping is that it can be used to bring you fully into this moment, to release the emotional attachments to being someplace else, to quiet your mind, and to experience the peace and silence from which all creation begins.

"If I love the world as it is I am already changing it: a first fragment of the world has been changed, and that is in my own heart."
– Novelist Petru Dumitriu

You are where you most need to be right now, and everything you need to succeed is contained in this very moment. Don’t miss it.
